POLL: What’s Wrong With Used Clubs?

May 10, 2013 | By Pete Girotto | 6 Comments

It’s no secret our country is not at its peak economical condition. Based on that, we also know the crap rolls down hill and eventually affects or has affected almost everyone. Who has the money to do anything let alone buy a new set of golf clubs? I’ve touched upon used clubs before but I have a new angle! I want to know what happens to all the surplus golf clubs that are not purchased.

Is the material recycled? Are they donated? Hint, hint…our good friends over at Bunkersinbaghdad.com accept donations…just saying. Considering most are not recycled or donated, that means there’s a plethora of golf clubs not available to us, I’m guessing. My question to you is; Would you buy used or older model clubs?

POLL: Beer Cart Selections

May 3, 2013 | By Pete Girotto | 2 Comments

generic-beerI’ve got a bone to pick with whoever is in charge of stocking the beer cart. Not so much the MOFOBETE, their job is to peddle the goods. I’m talking about the decision maker who decides what refreshments and stuff go on the cart. And by refreshments I mean beer. This includes some 19th hole’s as well.

I work all week and on the weekend I like to squeeze in some golf between beers. In saying so, can I have a beer that I actually want? I am by no means a beer snob…I went to college. All I’m saying is, offer more. The selection looks like it came from a frat house. There are a plethora of beers out there now that are quite tasty and are made right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A! Come on guys, step it up a bit. If you’re giving it out for free that’s one thing but for everyone that’s paying, broaden the choices a little bit.

This isn’t meant to knock the “traditional” domestic beers. This is more along the lines of golfers and hacks are diverse in what they enjoy drinking. Doesn’t it make more sense to heighten the total golf experience? I return to places just because they have a beer I like. If my local track had a nice well rounded selection of beers on the course…I don’t know…I might actually have to use my sick days. This also lends to great exposure for the course by the best known form of marketing – word of mouth. “Oh man, I played at (insert golf course here) and they had cold (insert favorite beer not normally available here) bottles/cans on the beer cart!”  Can’t you just feel the excitement?

In the meantime, I guess I’ll just have to keep bringing my own. Yeah , I know it’s cheaper but some times splurging a little is ok too. Look, you’re going to get your cheap people and your big spenders. Unfortunately, we’ll never know if the opportunity doesn’t exist. Create the opportunity.

Hit’em long…yell FORE…take the poll below!!!

Golf Course Allergies

April 26, 2013 | By Pete Girotto | Leave a Comment

golf allergiesIt’s inevitable. For the past few years it seems I couldn’t wait for the warmer weather and golf season. When it finally came, so did the allergies. I don’t ever remember having allergies like this. I know, I know…the human body goes through changes every X amount of years blah blah blah. But I think that’s a bunch of hooey. I’ve yet to see supported documentation from a reputable medical source on that.

Yet, I have allergies now and didn’t before, hmmmm. Rather odd if you ask me. Regardless of why, it’s time to do something about it. I want to golf symptom free. No feeling crappy, or watery-eyes and sinus head aches. What to do, what to do? Well, I’ve  looked into precautions and remedies and came across some interesting and weird stuff.

There’s the no-brainer stuff like using otc allergy meds or getting a script from the doctor for something stronger. According to data from aafa.org (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America),  you might want to avoid the mid day tee times when the pollen count is highest. Also, playing on true links style courses with very few (if any) trees but unfortunately, this is the U.S. and  true links style courses are the minority.

Obviously, we can take the prescriptions and otc drugs but some people prefer more natural relief. They rather do it with the least amount of chemical intervention as possible. Stuff like, eating local honey, cool mist humidifiers and saline nasal rinses seem to be common natural methods of keeping allergies to a minimum.

Whatever path you may choose, the goal here is to hit the local track and enjoy your round symptom free. What are you doing still reading this? Get out there already!

Golf In A Whole New Light.

April 19, 2013 | By Pete Girotto | 3 Comments

sunrise-165094_640I have to say, it’s nice to wake up on a beautiful sunny day and hit the links. Actually, it’s nice to just wake up and have the opportunity to hit the links on any day. It’s the American way. Every day we have the choice to make choices. It’s called freedom and it’s fantastic!

In the wake of the Boston Marathon and recent tragedies, the steady thump of the patriotism drum is heard once again loud and clear. Stirring up feelings or emotions reminiscent of the  days and weeks following 9/11. Today, I’m proud to be an American. Just like any other day but today is special because it’s right now – the present. No matter what happens I will not be afraid to live.

Maybe the goal of these sick people that have caused these horrible events is to scare us into a  state of instability. Could be, but don’t they realize it only brings us closer and makes us stronger? Time and again, we bounce back and rise to the occasion. It’s a part of our DNA.

So, tomorrow when I wake up and have the freedom to chose what course I want to hack up, I’ll be thinking of how great it is to have this opportunity. An opportunity not to be taken for granted. It won’t matter if I snowman every hole, I will be grateful.

Masters Smorgasbord.

April 12, 2013 | By Pete Girotto | 1 Comment

masters jacketWhat an exciting week at The Masters so far. Sergio is tied for first…of course that was only after the first round and 14 year old Guan Tianlang from China shot a 73. Wait, who? Speaking of China, I’ve been doing my best to attain pro status for my Masters party. I use fine china, silverware and real glasses whenever possible but the green jacket was kind of tough. Bubba Watson guards that thing pretty closely.

If you’re wondering what the hell I’m talking about that’s because you missed my post last Friday…it’s ok…really. I’ll give you a moment to catch up here. All caught up? Great! The good news is you can still board the green jacket fiesta train to fairway tomfoolery and nineteenth hole hijinx.

Along with all the hoopla The Masters carries with it, there’s also an opportunity to make a wager or two. Being it’s one of the four majors, this tourney sees extensive Vegas action for golf. Here’s your chance to check the odds for any golf betting you desire. Will Bubba do it again? Who knows when there is that much talent out there.

As you can see we have been going over a bunch of stuff tied to the Masters, hence the smorgasbord. That said, I wanted to save the best for last. We all know the Masters is an opportune time for businesses in the golf sector to do some advertising and maybe run some specials.

I received an email for a special “Masters week discount” from Planeswing.com. Let me tell you, these guys are on to something. Not only will they help with your swing, they’ll apparently help stop your case of the runs. Check out #4 on their “Seven Common Problems Solved” list.
