Why Our Significant Others Should Not Golf.

November 8, 2013 | By Pete Girotto | 2 Comments

golf weddingAfter putting some thought into this for a while, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is better if our significant others do not golf. In most instances this is already the case but for those who think otherwise, we need to lift them out of the fog and show what lies ahead. So to simplify, I’ve come up with a top 5 list of reasons our soul mates should not golf:

5. “Oh, how convenient…you’re going golfing. I’ll get my clubs.” You know what I mean.

4. As a result of #5, who gets squeezed out of the foursome to make room for you know who? Which of your buddies do you have to give the business to?

3. Because of #4, you end up really golfing in a twosome, sharing a cart with you know who.

2. Thanks to #3, “me” time is now “our” time…oof!

And finally…

1. Sanity’s sake.

There you go and let’s just keep this between us. No need to stir up anything unnecessary. Feel free to continue this list in the comments.

Hit’em long…yell FORE!!! Stay sane…

We have several couples in our local Friday Evening League, and the key to martial-golfing success is their typically-playing in separate foursomes. …And never, ever share the same cart.

One retired couple are both serious dedicated recreational players, but they play golf separately and meet-up at the bar afterwards. They also have separate groups of “golf-buddies/biddies” for during the week…and she plays in two ladies-only leagues at other clubs. As a retired-couple, those 3-6 hours with different foursomes…or off playing-separately…count as “apart time” rather than too-much togetherness.

Now if you’re still in the “dating phase”…thus may or may-not be good advice. If I had a BF who played golf I’d play more-often…and sample more courses together.

My wife plays occasionally, but prefers to play with friends in a quick 9 holes after work. Not serious at all, but loves the social component.
When we first met, she expressed interest in learning the game. I told her that I’d happily play with her, would help her find clubs and would find her an instructor, but I would NOT teach her the game. I firmly believe that there are two things you should never try to teach your significant other if you want to retain a good relationship……how to drive a car, or how to play golf. 🙂
