Tee Area, Not a Pee Area

GolfStinks’ co-founder Tom (NOT pictured above) has always wanted to invent a portable toilet – particularly for a car, but he’s had thoughts of applying his idea to golf carts too (after all, the golf course is a good place for a portable toilet).

General male thinking on the golf course typically goes as follows: “I have to pee and I’m outdoors already – perfect!” Most guys will wander over to the edge of the tree line and water the foliage.

The tastefulness of this act depends upon who’s present at the time. For example, if it’s a foursome of male friends, no one would probably think twice about someone relieving themselves on the side of the tee-box. However, someone who’s latched-on with an unfamiliar threesome would probably wait until the turn to hit the head.

But some courses (as you can see from the photo above) want to crack-down on golf course peeing. It’s interesting the course chose that particular place to put the sign – perhaps it was getting mushy on that spot or more likely (and potentially far worse), perhaps the location isn’t as concealed as it appears!

At the moment I snapped that photo, my golf buddy (who shall remain nameless) was obviously in complete violation of the local ruling. Perhaps he should have used the device in the video below instead?

“I really have to go, but there’s a ‘no pee’ sign over there. I guess I’ll have to get out my UroClub. Ok, let me unscrew it…crap, it’s still wet from last time. Hang on, let me get this towel thingy situated over my general groin area…crap, now I can’t see what I’m doing…crap, it’s going everywhere…ah the hell with it – I’m going over to that tree – screw that sign!”

Yeah, I fail to see how that would be any better.

Look, my advice is if you’ve gotta go on the course, choose your spot wisely…and watch out for ticks…

A Glimpse Into The New Golf Season

Almost golf season!
Almost golf season!

Well, we made it.  We went all of last week here in CT without a snowstorm.  That’s the first week without a snowstorm in, I believe, the past seven.  As a matter of fact, this past Saturday, the temps reached up into the low 50’s…golfing weather!  Unfortunately, we dipped back down on Sunday into the mid- to upper-30’s…so golfing is right back out the window again.  But it is a step in the right direction.

With the recent weather slowly giving a glimpse into the upcoming spring, for the first time this off-season, I’m starting to get the golfing itch back.  Slowly but surely, the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer and I’m even starting to see some grass as the snow slowly melts away!  Even though they are talking about a little more snow for Tuesday, my optimism cannot be swayed.

The only problem with all of the snow we had now melting is that it’s going to over saturate the courses.  So even though the temperature had reached the 50’s on Saturday, I wouldn’t have played because stepping on the course would have been like playing in quicksand.  Every swing would spray mud fifteen yards out.  Tee boxes would be destroyed, balls would be plugged in the middle of the fairway and greens would have more dimples that the golf ball itself.  And even though I would love to get back out on the course, I still remain one of those golfers who really prefers to play in optimal conditions.  And having your golf cart stuck like you took it out mud-bogging is not what I would call optimal.

My point here is, the weather is improving, it’s light out for a longer period of time and the temperatures are rising.  This all points to the golf season getting closer and it won’t be long now before it’s in full swing (see what I did there).  And that is music to our ears.

Swing ’til you’re happy!

Authorities Cracking Down On Golf Course Betting?

March 7, 2014 | By Pete Girotto | Leave a Comment

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir...
Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir…

What a tough break for Tarpon Springs Golf Course in Florida. According to a news report, they are being investigated for, get this, if club officials collected money from members to fund a tournament purse. I mean, everyone enjoys a little gambling every now and then, right? It’s hard to believe there aren’t more important things to investigate or police over.

Florida law states something to the fact that it is illegal to bet on the results of a contest of skill. If that’s the case, they need to close down almost every course. Now, what if it’s a contest of luck? I’m sure 99% percent of golfers out there would agree that the few great shots they hit were more luck than something skillfully planned and executed.

So…if that’s the case, technically there should be no case. This is a democracy, and if 99% say it’s luck I would tend to agree. Tell me if you have ever witnessed this scenario:

Golfer hits a great shot. On the approach to his ball, the other members of the foursome congratulate him. Golfer replies “Thanks! Yeah, that was skill…” and is serious about it.

Never. Doesn’t happen. That must have been skill too when they sent two into the lumberyard and one in the drink on the same hole.

Unofficially, these tournaments and betting between golfers has been going on for a very long time. So much that it’s practically become a part of golf’s DNA. In Tarpon Springs situation, it’s a mystery to me why this would be an on going investigation and hopefully it all works out for them. I guess gambling is illegal at Bushwood.

Hit’em long…yell FORE!!!

Will This Brutal Winter Delay Golf Season?

Time for snow golf?
Time for snow golf?

Living in CT all my life, I’m just used to the snow.  Be it three inches or three feet.  When you’re a New Englander, you accept that you’re going to have this kind of weather, so you don’t complain when it happens.  You just accept that your garage or tool shed will include either a snow-shovel, snow-blower or both.  You accept that you will need to carry a snow-brush and ice scraper in your car.  But what you don’t expect is to have to replace these things due to overuse in one season!  So coming off another winter storm, a storm which covered the snow from the last storm which was already covering the snow from two storms ago, you begin to wonder…when exactly is golf season going to begin this year?

I know it’s a bit early still – I normally don’t play my first round of golf until April at the earliest.  But here we are in mid-February.  We’ve had six snowstorms in the past six weeks and talk of a seventh this week.  So when exactly are the courses going to be ready to play?  I mean, if the famous Eisenhower Tree at Augusta National has been lost to ice damage, and that’s down south, what kind of damage are we going to be looking at here in CT?

If old Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction is correct, then we’ll still be seeing snow well into March.  Heck, wasn’t it just last year when we were still getting snow in April?  So who knows what to expect?!  All I know is, for one reason or another, my golf season gets started later and later every year.  I was hoping to put an end to that trend this season, but with no end in sight to the winter combined with the groundhogs input, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not that will actually happen.

So what to do?  Wait it out until the conditions are optimal?  This would be preferred.  Or do I head out to the course and play on a wet, muddy, sloppy course where my ball is going to get plugged after every iron shot and a divot as deep as the abyss will be left after each stroke?  I hate playing when the course is like this.  Not to mention, it does too much damage when the course probably has enough problems already.  Maybe I’ll just take an early golf trip until conditions here are better suited for a round?  Now that sounds like a plan…if finances allow.

Swing ’til you’re happy!

Really Enjoying Golf…

Time for a little grass on the greens?
Time for a little grass on the greens?

Well, it’s been an interesting week so far. I would like to thank our readers for commenting on my post last week about making golf more enjoyable. In particular there are a couple that stuck out. For the first one, we’ll move on over to the Twitterverse and…well…see tweet below.

@golfstinks all u need to do is include a pitch n puff to your bag, check it out @ http://t.co/tq6dHPxLRf

— pitch-n-puff (@pitch_n_puff) January 28, 2014

How could I have gone all this time without a Pitch-n-puff? A solid brass tee! Talk about indestructible…wait, what? Oh, so you don’t actually use it to tee up a golf ball? It’s for what? Ooooohhhhh, I see. In that case, if your “golfing” with a pitch-n-puff in Colorado or Washington state you should be fine.

Next up, and boy am I excited about this, I received a voice mail from one of our readers, who just happens to be the one and only John Daly, stating how he likes to enjoy himself on the course. We’ve taken the liberty and transcribed the message below so everyone can read it, check it out.

“…Woo hoo! You golfstinkin’  motherf***ers are all right! When I’m on the course with my buds we really like to crack into a 30 pack and a fifth of…S**t, I don’t know…alcohol! It don’t f***in’ matter cuz we enjoying ourselves! And then we bust a couple lines…”

Oh dear, I think we’ve heard enough. Good to see Mr. Daly hasn’t forgotten how to enjoy himself. I guess the most important thing we can take from all of this is that you too should enjoy yourself on the course. However you think fit…But we’re not bailing you out.

Hit’em long…yell FORE!!!

Disclaimer: Golfstinks.com does not condone nor condemn any of the stuff mentioned above…we’re like Switzerland. Also, John Daly never called and left a message. But if he did, I’m guessing that is what it would’ve sounded like.
