Paralysis Of Analysis

Golf Driving Range

By definition this means over-analyzing or over-thinking a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome. In an effort to seek the perfect answer or solution to something, we fear making any decision that could lead to failure. In a recent Golf Channel story, they discussed Tiger Woods’ mission to perfect his swing as the reason of his downfall.

After reading the article, they made a good case as to why his recent less-than-spectacular performance was due to his search for swing perfection. Now, we normally do not delve into the realm of giving swing advice nor any other tips or lessons on how to be a better golfer. However, there are some exceptions and here is one of them…

So you want to be a better golfer? Join the club. I’m certain 99% of the 26 million or so non-professional golfers in the U.S. feel the same way. I know I do. The important thing to take away from this is to “play our game”.  Obviously we see what Mr. Woods is going through and he does this everyday. A key factor to progress is learning from mistakes, whether they’re ours or someone else’s.

As a hack, the priority list of every round we play is a bit different than a pro’s. Our number one is to have fun compared to their number one which is to win and make money. That said, todays lesson is quite basic – forget about perfecting our swing and just swing the friggin’ club.

Hit’em long…yell FORE!!!

Golfing in Hawaii is Just a Website Away

August 1, 2010 | By Greg D'Andrea | 1 Comment

It’s not often we here at Golfstinks gush over something the Golf Channel does, but for the next four Sundays, we’ll be highlighting some great travel websites they’ve launched.

This Sunday, we’re taking a peek at HawaiiGolf.com, a one-stop-shop for finding the right Hawaiian courses and resorts to make your golf trip to paradise perfect (especially for someone like me, who’s never been to Hawaii before). From the easy-to-navigate homepage, you can choose your island, search for courses and book tee-times – all without leaving the desktop.

Featured courses include Ko’olau Golf Club, which is one of the most beautiful and most difficult courses in the world – no kidding, in a post I penned about slope ratings, I highlighted its crazy 152-rating (used to be 162) from the back tees!

Of course, you’ve got to have someplace to stay while visiting The Aloha State, and HawaiiGolf doesn’t disappoint – from it’s “hotel” tab, you can find great deals on some great hotels, including Sheraton, Turtle Bay and The Westin. And with the handy restaurant guide, you’ll be kept well-fed in between rounds.

One of the other neat features of the site is the video center, where you’ll get to see footage and outtakes from the Golf Channel’s “Destination Golf: Hawaii.” Not only are the video’s somewhat entertaining, they can provide some cool tips while visiting.

Now I realize not everyone is going to be heading over the the tropical paradise that is Hawaii in the near future (including yours truly), but if you’ve been thinking about making a golfing trip there, perhaps one of the best places to start is HawaiiGolf.com.

Check back next Sunday when we’ll take a look at another destination golf website.

Golf Clubbin’

So I figured I would help boost some TV ratings and present a little something different to today’s reality TV show viewers. This feat will be accomplished by combining the Golf Channel’s “Big Break” and let’s say…oh I don’t know…MTV’s “Jersey Shore”. Ladies and Gent’s I present to you “Golf Clubbin’!”

A reality show that embraces polar opposites and forces them to co-exist. We can use the existing cast of JS and put them in various golf situations such as working in an upscale, pretentious golf club or caddying for a pro. Perhaps even challenging them to a round where they must make the cut or be subjected to some sort of embarrassment.

I can see it now… some dialogue from the first episode:
Scene opens with Mike “The Situation” pounding on the bathroom door very early in the a.m.

Mike: Paulie! Could you f@#$in’ hurry up in there. We’ve been waiting for forty-five friggin’ minutes. We’re gonna be late on our first friggin’ day! There’s gonna be a situation if you don’t hurry up!

Paulie: Chill bro, I’m doin’ my hair! They gave us a 1200 watt hair dryer…I need at least 1600.

Vinnie: What the f@#$ is wrong with you Paulie? Where the hell is Ronnie?

Camera cuts to the girls room:

Snookie: Ok, so let me get this straight. I hold the shaft with both hands and rest my head next to the ball- give it a swing and that’s called a stroke?

J Woww: I dunno… I think that’s what the book says…

Sammy: Jeez, all this talk about shafts, balls, and head is killing me…where’s Ronnie?

Aw man, this could be great. I know, I know…idiotic… but nonetheless entertaining.
