Every so often I like to peruse through various golf publications in search of interesting stories or events. Recently, I came across the new issue of Golf Digest and had to do a double take to make sure it actually was Golf Digest. This month’s cover belongs to none other than Mr. Wayne Gretzky’s daughter, Paulina.
Let’s get one thing straight, I’m not complaining. It was just something unexpected. Normally, you wouldn’t assume an attractive woman in work out gear showing skin would be on the cover of a golf magazine. Although she was holding a golf club which, I’m sure, justifies it for many but for some reason I have a feeling this will not go over well with certain groups.
Golf Digest Editor-in-Chief Jerry Tarde released a statement saying “Paulina ranks at the high end of the golf celebrity scene today…She also might get some new people interested in the game.” Hmmmm…ranks high on the golf celebrity scene and might get some new people interested in the game…interesting.
My concern is that this might not relate to the average hacks that make up 99.9% of golfers. There’s no denying she’s a beautiful woman but the whole celebrity scene thing is out of my league. It just doesn’t register with me. I mean, maybe it’s because I’m not in that scene but let’s be real, how many are?
However, I do think Golf Digest is on to something. They were obviously going after the majority of the golf population with this cover but with some fine tuning they could probably cover almost the whole demographic.
Hit’em long…yell FORE!!!
