{"id":85,"date":"2012-09-17T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-17T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/?p=85"},"modified":"2013-02-04T15:41:08","modified_gmt":"2013-02-04T15:41:08","slug":"getting-together-to-watch-some-golf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/getting-together-to-watch-some-golf.html","title":{"rendered":"Getting Together To Watch Some Golf"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><a href=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/thCAJZPC223.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"125\" width=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/thCAJZPC222.jpg\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span>So regular season football has been on for two weeks now, and for two weeks I&#8217;ve had a few buddies come over to watch the games with me.\u00a0 Our faces are being stuffed with pizza, wings and chips.\u00a0 Beers are being guzzled.\u00a0\u00a0Ooh&#8217;s and aah&#8217;s spread throughout the room after big hits and great catches.\u00a0 Football season is in full swing and I love it.<\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>It&#8217;s all of this that makes me realize what that\u00a0one thing is that&#8217;s missing from golf that keeps me from having the guys over to watch a round &#8211; everything.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>A long time ago <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.blogspot.com\/2010\/12\/pick-up-some-wings-and-beer-final-round.html\"><span>I wondered the reason my buddies and I get together to watch football, along with the occasional baseball and basketball games, but we never do for golf,<\/span><\/a><span> even though we all enjoy and play the game.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m thinking that sometime in the next few months, I may try to have a golf get together.\u00a0 But\u00a0a few\u00a0dilemmas exist. <\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>1. It&#8217;s going to be limited to only certain months of the year.\u00a0\u00a0Think about it, if the weather is nice enough, we&#8217;re going to be playing golf, not watching it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the same reason that, despite there being a PGA Tour stop only fifteen\u00a0minutes from my house, I&#8217;ve only attended it three times.\u00a0 If the weather is nice enough to wander around a golf course, then I&#8217;m going to wander a golf course with my clubs in tow.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>2. As mentioned before in the linked post above&#8230;it&#8217;s boring.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s face it, watching golf on TV is just not very exciting.\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;Hey guys, want to come by my place Sunday and watch the sun move across the sky?&#8221;\u00a0 Yeah, that&#8217;ll be a blast.\u00a0 &#8220;Hey man, I just painted my garage.\u00a0 Why don&#8217;t you\u00a0head on over and we can watch it dry together?&#8221;\u00a0 If I was to actually ask either of these questions to my buddies, do you know what the response would be?\u00a0 &#8220;Thanks but no thanks dude&#8230;I&#8217;d rather watch a golf tournament.&#8221;<\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>3. How do you plan ahead for it?\u00a0 Do you just pick a time and say come over then?\u00a0 What if it&#8217;s the final round and you&#8217;re only interested in one particular golfer?\u00a0 How much of that golfer do you really get to see?\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go to 13.\u00a0 Now back to 7.\u00a0 We&#8217;re going to head over to 17 now.\u00a0 We end up watching a\u00a0bunch of practice swings before we see eleven seconds of real action&#8230;if you can really call it that.<\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>You know, this idea is actually beginning to start sounding bad.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to have the guys come over and be bored.\u00a0\u00a0None of us want to sit and watch golf when we could be playing instead.\u00a0 And honestly, it just seems hard to plan for.\u00a0 So if I&#8217;m going to do it, it looks like it&#8217;s going to have to be a final round, which means a Sunday.\u00a0 It&#8217;s going to have to be in the\u00a0cold weather, or else we&#8217;ll be playing.\u00a0 So that leaves a Sunday in the winter.
