{"id":27,"date":"2012-12-17T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-17T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/?p=27"},"modified":"2013-02-04T15:40:38","modified_gmt":"2013-02-04T15:40:38","slug":"do-golfers-know-bo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/do-golfers-know-bo.html","title":{"rendered":"Do Golfers Know Bo?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><a href=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/obese-golfer2.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><span><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/obese-golfer2.jpg\"><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span>Last week I got into the idea of the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.blogspot.com\/2012\/12\/bo-knowsgolf.html\"><span> multi-sport athlete being a golfer.<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0 But I really focused that on\u00a0the idea of an athlete from another sport taking golf as their &#8220;other&#8221; sport.\u00a0 So\u00a0what about a golfer becoming a multi-sport athlete?\u00a0 Could a PGA Tour pro make it in\u00a0another sport?\u00a0 Well, I guess that would partially have to do with what the other sport is.\u00a0 But at the same time, there are reasons why I would have to say the answer is, quite simply, not a chance.<\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>It&#8217;s not that I&#8217;m of the school of thought\u00a0which believes golfers are not athletes, because\u00a0I do believe they are&#8230;to an extent.\u00a0 However, I do also\u00a0believe that it most certainly does not take a\u00a0finely-tuned athlete to be a professional golfer.\u00a0 After all, just take a look for yourself.\u00a0 But\u00a0if you\u00a0look at\u00a0the athletes in some of the other major sports, you can see the conditioning, strength, durability and endurance shining through.\u00a0 By comparison, most golfers look like they couldn&#8217;t handle a day of practice in another sport.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>Take a look at this <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_multi-sport_athletes#Golf\"><span>list of multi-sport athletes<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0&#8211; if you were to scroll down to the golf section you&#8217;ll find one name &#8211; Babe Zaharias.\u00a0 The only other sport on the list with only one athlete listed is Netball&#8230;and I&#8217;m not even sure what that is.\u00a0 So that should be your first clue.\u00a0 Otherwise,\u00a0I remember back when John Daly first began making a name for himself,\u00a0the Indianapolis Colts had talked about possibly bringing him in for a tryout as\u00a0a kicker, but that never actually came to fruition.\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><br \/><span>But another reason\u00a0I believe there are no\u00a0multi-sport athletes in golf is due to the fact that golf is just too hard of a game to master.\u00a0\u00a0Do you think a player can make the tour if they spend half of their time playing or practicing another sport?\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care how superior an athlete you are, I just don&#8217;t see that happening without dedicating just about every waking hour available away from your other sport\u00a0to golf.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><span>But as\u00a0mentioned last week, with all of the money and big contracts floating around, another\u00a0Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders is not realistic in this day and age.\u00a0 But imagine what a multi-sport\u00a0athlete could do for golf, especially if it was primarily a golfer who took up another sport.\u00a0 At the very least, it sure would put a dent in that\u00a0&#8220;golfers aren&#8217;t athletes&#8221;
