Team\u00a0is going to come repelling out of the trees and surround you right there on the fairway for using the old Condor golf ball.\u00a0 No other commonly played sport (by non-pro athletes) refers to non-regulation equipment\u00a0as illegal&#8230;only golf.\u00a0 People don&#8217;t call a basketball with better grip an illegal ball.\u00a0 It&#8217;s simply a non-regulation ball.\u00a0 When I played softball in a league, we didn&#8217;t care if someone wore specifically softball cleats or not.\u00a0\u00a0Some players didn&#8217;t even wear cleats!\u00a0 The softball justice\u00a0squad didn&#8217;t bust through the gates to take us down.\u00a0 No arrests, no charges.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, why does it matter\u00a0so much?\u00a0 If you&#8217;re out playing a pickup basketball game, do you care what type of ball you have?\u00a0 Do you call someone on it when they show up without a Spalding Official NBA ball?\u00a0 I sure don&#8217;t, and at $90+ each, who can blame them for not showing up with one?\u00a0 If you&#8217;re playing a game of touch football, do you care if you&#8217;re\u00a0not playing with an official Wilson regulation NFL ball?\u00a0\u00a0Of course not.\u00a0 So why do you care if someone plays with a Polara golf ball?\u00a0 Or an &#8220;illegally&#8221; weighted putter?\u00a0 Or pretty much anything made by a company like NGC Golf?\u00a0 I&#8217;ll tell you why.\u00a0 Because as much as you claim to be, you&#8217;re not really &#8220;playing against yourself,&#8221; are you?<\/p>\n<p>In the grand scheme of things, in relation to playing at the pro level, you and I playing on\u00a0our local public (or private) course\u00a0is no different than a few guys playing\u00a0pickup hoops or\u00a0beer league softball.\u00a0 So what do\u00a0you care what kind of ball\u00a0someone else\u00a0uses?\u00a0 Why do\u00a0you care\u00a0if\u00a0some other guy\u00a0is using an\u00a0&#8220;illegally&#8221; weighted putter?\u00a0 What does it matter to you\u00a0if\u00a0the face of\u00a0somebody&#8217;s driver\u00a0has &#8220;illegal&#8221; grooves?\u00a0 You&#8217;re supposed to\u00a0be playing against yourself, right?\u00a0 So worry about what you do, not what some other guy does.\u00a0 I played an entire round with a guy who used the Polara balls.\u00a0 I even tried it out once!\u00a0 So what do I care?<\/p>\n<p>However, if there&#8217;s money on the line&#8230;well now&#8230;that&#8217;s a different story.<\/p>\n<p>Swing &#8217;til you&#8217;re happy!<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, that title is totally tongue-in-cheek.\u00a0 Sarcastic even.\u00a0 It&#8217;s amazing what an uproar is caused\u00a0when\u00a0a golfer finds out that another golfer is using &#8220;illegal&#8221; golf equipment.\u00a0 You know, for a sport who&#8217;s players claim they are &#8220;playing against themselves,&#8221; they sure are awfully worried about what everyone else is doing.
