Well, if you haven’t figured it out by now, it’s official.\u00a0 Linsanity is running wild throughout the basketball world.\u00a0 Actually, make that the whole world.\u00a0 Being a basketball fan, I’ve been sucked in.\u00a0 And why shouldn’t I be?\u00a0 Here’s an Ivy League kid who wasn’t offered a scholarship by any school, went undrafted and signed as a free agent with the Golden State Warriors, was then cut by\u00a0two teams before signing with the Knicks.\u00a0 And supposedly was about to be cut by them if not for injury problems on their roster.<\/span><\/p>\n

But then one game comes along and\u00a0he outplays an all-star.\u00a0 He starts the next game, lights it up and his coach decides he’s going to “ride\u00a0Lin like freakin’ Secretariat.”\u00a0 No looking back since then.\u00a0 Eleven straight good, if not great, games and a star is born.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

But it’s not only\u00a0Lin or the Knicks who are benefiting from this new-found stardom.\u00a0\u00a0TV ratings for the Knicks are up.\u00a0 Ticket prices have risen.\u00a0 The international fanbase is growing again.\u00a0 Hell, even stock prices\u00a0for\u00a0Madison Square Garden are up about six percent!\u00a0 The NBA couldn’t have made-up a better story!<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, I’m not really one for the “manufactured” story, but creating a Jeremy Lin may be something the PGA wants to look into.\u00a0 I mean, why not?\u00a0 Look at what it’s done for the NBA!\u00a0 And coming off of a\u00a0lockout, it couldn’t have happened at a better time.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

With golf’s TV ratings as low as they are, the sport’s biggest star clearly not what he once was and overall interest in the game falling every year, golf needs a\u00a0knight in shining armor.\u00a0 Think sixteen years ago to 1996 when Tiger first came on the scene prefessionally.\u00a0 That’s what golf needs now in 2012.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

So who will it be?\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 How about they start with the next\u00a0relatively unknown player to finish high in a tournament?\u00a0 Remember, he doesn’t have to be a great player, or even a\u00a0player who will compete for the\u00a0win in every tournament.\u00a0 It just has to be a player that everyone can get behind.\u00a0 Lin is not a\u00a0top-ten player.\u00a0 He’s probably not even a top ten player at his own position, he’s just on a serious hot streak.\u00a0 But that’s not what matters to fans.\u00a0 First and foremost, it’s the story that matters.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

The beauty of competitive golf is that not alot of strokes separate the best 18-hole round from someone in the middle of the pack.\u00a0 So taking a\u00a0player and saying he finished only\u00a0four strokes back might, in actuality, be a long way behind.\u00a0 But it doesn’t sound like much, and\u00a0that’s the key.\u00a0 Losing by four makes you sound like you had a good shot down the stretch.\u00a0 Play that out and hope.\u00a0 And you never know, maybe you catch lightning in a bottle!<\/span><\/p>\n

Well, I don’t know if this makes any sense really.\u00a0 Just looking for ideas to help as usual.\u00a0 Besides, who would you start with?\u00a0 How about John Huh<\/a>?\u00a0 Who?\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 Some of you may know him now, after yesterday.\u00a0 But you didn’t\u00a0know him\u00a0two days ago, did you?\u00a0 Only the hardest of the hardcore golf fans did.\u00a0 <\/span>

This is a chance for the PGA to jump on it’s own Jeremy Lin-like hype.\u00a0 You see what it’s done for the NBA.\u00a0 Why can’t it do the same for the PGA?\u00a0 It has to start somewhere.\u00a0 Here’s as good an opportunity as any.<\/span><\/p>\n
