Quit Skiing"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6979\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6979\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/en\/freerider-skiing-ski-sports-alpine-498473\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6979 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/freerider-498473_1280-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"Why risk injury when you can be lollygagging along on the golf course?\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/freerider-498473_1280-300x194.jpg 300w, http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/freerider-498473_1280-1024x662.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/freerider-498473_1280-600x388.jpg 600w, http:\/\/golfstinks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/freerider-498473_1280.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6979\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Why risk injury skiing when you can be lollygagging along on the golf course instead?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Have you ever wondered why some professional athletes have a clause in their contract that prevent them from participating in certain off-season activities?\u00a0\u00a0For instance, some baseball players are not allowed to do things such as play a pickup basketball game.\u00a0 I believe it was Roger Clemens who once had a clause in his contract stating he was not allowed to do the simple task of mowing his lawn.\u00a0 But hey, when you&#8217;re paying a guy over $10 million a year,\u00a0the last thing you want is for him to get hurt doing something outside of playing the sport you&#8217;re paying him to play.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I&#8217;ve penned a couple of posts about <a href=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.blogspot.com\/2012\/12\/bo-knowsgolf.html\">athletes from other sports taking up golf<\/a> as a second sport, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/golfstinks.blogspot.com\/2012\/12\/do-golfers-know-bo.html\">golfers playing other sports.<\/a>\u00a0 But it&#8217;s Miguel Angel Jimenez who may have put those arguments for the golfers to rest after his recent skiing accident.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t heard by now, a little over a week ago\u00a0Jimenez broke\u00a0his leg while skiing.\u00a0 The result?\u00a0 After surgery he&#8217;ll be unable to play for at least\u00a0three months and possibly as long as five.\u00a0 Now, that may be a bit of a stretch as far as the multi-sport athlete argument, but you would have to imagine\u00a0what&#8217;s going through the minds of many GM&#8217;s in the major sports right now.\u00a0 That&#8217;s one more clause that may have to be put into future contracts if it&#8217;s not already in there &#8211; no skiing.<\/p>\n<p>For a golfer to have such an injury, I don&#8217;t think it will take much of a toll physically since\u00a0the sport doesn&#8217;t exactly demand much stress on the body.\u00a0 For golfers it&#8217;s more about the time away from the game and what it&#8217;s going to do to your swing.\u00a0 But for players in more physically demanding sports that include running and hitting, an injury like that could be either career-ending or certainly career-debilitating at least.\u00a0 Think former Chicago Bull <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jay_Williams_(basketball)\">Jay Williams<\/a>\u00a0who violated his NBA contract by riding a motorcycle, and subsequently crashing it, thus ending his NBA career.<\/p>\n<p>NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson may have a bit of experience with a golf injury, although his occurred when he fell from a golf cart.\u00a0 Supposedly Johnson\u00a0actually fell from the top of a moving cart, injuring his wrist in the process which caused him to miss a month of racing.\u00a0 Of course, the PGA Tour doesn&#8217;t use carts, and even if they did, something tells me they wouldn&#8217;t let you ride on top of one.\u00a0 But, I guess if you&#8217;re going to act like a jackass, you get what&#8217;s coming.<\/p>\n<p>Now since PGA Tour golfers are, in effect, &#8220;independent contractors,&#8221;
